Femke goes international!

Since we've been writing this blog, the number of 'followers' has been growing steadily, and this results in a better 'google-ranking', which resulted in even more readers we never had the pleasure of meeting.

However, the basic reason for starting this blog hasn't changed: The internet is full with information on everything, but information about the Angelman-syndrome is hard to find. And what you DO find... is info you really didn't want to hear, or just not applicable to your child.

Because most of the world doesn't speak Dutch (and because Google Translate simply doesn't work) we have been thinking about translating the blog to English for a while.
Now that we've had more than 10.000 views, and since I recently found out my Canadian relatives want to be kept informed as well, we decided to start translating.

For those of you who just started reading this blog: This blog is for the parents.
The information you find here may not be want to hear as well, and it still might not be what you're seeing at home with your own Angel.
This blog is about our daughter Femke. These are her challenges, her progress and her frustrations. It is a real story, not the medical mumbo-jumbo you hear from Wikipedia, Google and your own doctor... who gets his (or her) info from the internet as well: Angelman is such a rare syndrome it is very, very hard to find an expert.
So never forget: If you have a child with Angelman: YOU are the expert. Not the man or woman in white holding a stethoscope, who happens to have a degree in medicine.

We would like to welcome everybody to read the blog, and please inform others you have found this blog. You never know if someone, somewhere might find a piece of information here that they might find useful.

From now on, we will try to post translations of our blogs as well, but Dutch will still be our first language. We will try to translate the blogs we have written in the past as well, but please don't hold your breath: this will take time.

If you have a question or a comment: post it on the blog and we'll try to get in touch.

Kind regards,
Nora & Arjan
